The 1998 Libertarian Party of Iowa Convention took place at the Holiday Inn near Williamsburg on November 21, 1998. State Chair Randy Herod opened the convention at 9:45 AM and gave some general comments.

Mark Nelson made the motion and Tim Hurd seconded to appoint Roger Fritz as Recorder. Motion carried on a voice vote. Tim Hurd gave the Treasurer's report.

Roger Fritz, also the chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, announced the Committee's recommended changes to the Constitution, Bylaws, and also recommended resolutions.

Amendments to the Consitution in Article 13, Section 1 and Article V, Section 1b met the 90% approval and were passed. Changes to Bylaw II Section 2, the addition of Bylaw II Section 4, the addition of Bylaw IV Section 6, and the addition of Bylaw VIII all met the required majority approval. Four resolutions were also approved. No additional changes from the delegates were presented.

The convention adjourned for lunch at Noon and reconvened at 1:10 PM.

Nelson spoke of his run for Davenport School Board. Michael Ryan commented on his work on the same campaign. Fritz talked of his run for Roland City Council. Hurd talked of his campaigns and signature gathering efforts. Herod spoke on his efforts at the local level in Waterloo.

Herod next talked of what was ahead in 1999 for the LPIA, including the LP7 convention to be held in Des Moines in October. The convention closed at 3:15PM.

An executive committee meeting was called to order immediately following the convention. Kevin Litton, Lawerence Wittstruck, and Christopher McDonald were appointed to fill vacancies on the executive committee. Russell Madden was appointed to the Judiciary Committee pending his approval.

Discussion followed regarding the Communication Committee and proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws. The Communication Committee of Litton and Ryan will begin work on gettting an LPIA domain for a website. Herod will be getting information to present to the Excom regarding costs and attorneys to review the LPIA Constitution and Bylaws.

The next Excom meeting is to be held in the Newton area in late January. The 1999 Convention is to be held in the Spring of 1999. Meeting adjourned at 5:10PM.
