Freedom Fest 2004
May 1, 2004
The biggest libertarian event in three states, the Party to Legalize Freedom, will be held this July 2 and 3, Friday and Saturday nights in Lee County near Keokuk. Hugh Tweedy, the events founder and organizer is expecting over one thousand freedom loving people to attend, including several from overseas, making this the first ever International Freedom Festival.
Live Bands will be playing under the big tent each night beginning at 7 PM. Twenty bands, covering all genres from classical to country to hard rock are scheduled to appear. A fireworks display will follow the short political speeches planned for Saturday night. There may also be a performance art tax protest - hmm. Day time hours you are free to make your own fun. LP members with a current membership card will be admitted at no charge. Non-members must pay an entrance fee at the gate. All money raised will be split between the Montrose / Donelson Library, the Donelson Volunteer Fire Department, a scholarship fund, and the Libertarian Party of Iowa.
Camping is advised. There may be a pig roast or chili stew, but guests are urged to bring their own food and beverages.
The Tweedy Homestead (aka Freedonia Ranch) is 10 miles North of Keokuk on Iowa Hwy 218/61, just follow the signs to 3192 260th Avenue. If you get lost, Hugh Tweedy can be reached at (319) 463-7788.
This maybe the last Freedom Fest for several years. The last few Freedom Fests have been unforgetable. Make the effort to be there, you won't regret it.
