Herman Lenz letter

A damn good rant - enjoy it.

The Founding Fathers of America sacrificed their own lives and property to break away from government tyranny and oppressive laws. Back in the early days of America, "freedom" meant being able to do with your own life as you see fit, as long as your actions did not endanger or harm anyone or anything else.

Do you think they intended for us to have the following?:

Seat belt laws. In what area of crime are the victims penalized for not wearing protection?

Raids on citizens' homes by law enforcement for simple possession of something the control zealots don't want them to have, even though the possessor had no intention of harming anyone or anything else.

A perverted justice system that gives a greater penalty to someone for simple possession than it gives to someone else for actually killing or endangering someone.

Certain officials given favored status in the laws and courts. Where is that equal justice under the law?

A complicated set of gun laws really intended to disarm common citizens and deny their constitutional right to own and carry for protection. If you've ever spanked your own child, you cannot legally own a gun.

Law enforcement using entrapment, deception, and unconstitutional methods to trick and coax clerks into illegal sales. It's that underage buyer that initiates the illegal sale. Look up the word entrapment in your dictionary. Also see the Iowa Constitution, Article 1-Bill of Rights, Section 6. Nowadays we have clever officials that can construe and interpret our constitution to make them mean the opposite of what they say, or to neuter true meaning.

State and federal legislative systems that cater primarily to big money / big business interests, law enforcement, bureaucrats, and the professional news media. Common citizens have little or nothing to say about it. That was proven back in the mid '80's when a few high-pressure and well paid lobbyists from Traffic Safety Now (a front for the auto industry) convinced state lawmakers to enact seat belt laws. But the next year, here in Iowa, over 400,000 common citizens asked lawmakers for repeal of the seat belt law, but those common citizens were ignored. Never in the history of Iowa was there such a great protest against any law, but it was jammed down our throats anyway. Similar protests were ignored by lawmakers in many other states. The professionals rule the legislative systems!

Today, citizens serving on juries are expected to just be intimidated robots willing to feed the defendant to the lions to satisfy some technicality in the law, even though the defendant did not, or did not even intend to, harm anyone or anything else. Jury pools are purged of those that can think or reason and have minds of their own. Back in the early days of America, when we still had true freedom, jurors knew they had the right to put the law on trial as well as the defendant. If they didn't like the law, or if the law was enforced badly, they just voted not guilty and thereby nullified the law. They refused to convict in many cases when they knew the defendant was guilty as charged.

Jurors of today don't have that kind of backbone and are not told of their full rights anymore, which has filled our prisons with non-violent, non-dangerous inmates. For more information on this subject, go to http://www.fija.org.

I know America is still a better place to live than many other places in the world, but our few freedoms that we still have are being snuffed out, until it will be like the old Soviet Union right here in the U.S. Big governments have a history of becoming tyrants over their own citizens.

Sincerely, Herman Lenz
