What's good enough for government work?
Iowa City man fosters career networking at Brown University
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa City resident Richard Campagna, 2004 vice-presidential
candidate for the Libertarian Party, is scheduled to moderate the Government and
Public Policy Panel on Saturday, February 12, for Brown University's Career Week, a
four-day event held on the Providence, Rhode Island, campus. One hundred twenty
faculty and nearly 1000 students are registered to attend Career Week 2005.
The moderator and all seven members of the Government and Public Policy Panel are
alumni of Brown University and are currently elected or appointed government
officials or have other expertise in government and public policy. Originally invited
to serve as a panelist, Campagna was asked last week to moderate the panel,
where he "would still have the opportunity to very much participate, but [he] would
also have the pleasure (or daunting task!) of posing questions, keeping the time",
according to Eve Formisano, Director of Alumni Services at Brown University.
"I feel very honored to serve my alma mater in this capacity," says Campagna.
"Career Week has grown over the years to become a major event for Brown. It
highlights the University's reputation for a practical orientation combined with the
scholarly underpinning expected of a university with its Ivy League status."
The following alumni have committed to serving on the panel (listed alphabetically):
-Name 'year graduated, Title, Organization
-Chris Bizzacco '03, Deputy Chief of Staff, City of Providence
-David Bowen '86, Minority Deputy Staff Director, Senate Committee on Health,
Education, Labor and Pensions
-Richard Campagna '72, Former Vice Presidential Candidate, Libertarian Party
-David Cicilline '83, Mayor, City of Providence
-Janet McLaughlin '68, Director for School Construction, State of Maine
-James Moran P'05, US Representative, US Congress
-Robert Samors '81, Associate VP/Federal Relations, UNC
-Grace Yuan '85, Partner, Preston, Gates, Ellis LLP
Campagna is currently a committee chair on the Brown Alumni Association Board of
Governors, and has been involved with his alumni association for 30 years in various
offices.
Moderating the Career Week panel dovetails with Campagna's pursuits in Iowa City
as a college and career counselor. "I've been informally counseling students about
their choices of college and career in various ways for 25 years, so I'm familiar with
the kinds of questions students want to ask, and the kinds of questions they need
to ask. As a moderator, I want to channel our panel's discussion to appeal to
students by being provocative and informative at the same time."
